AMS Outsiders unaffiliated with the AMS of UBC Vancouver

On March 2, 2016 a small number of UBC students and Alumni received an anonymous email entitled Exposés? Read this First. The email originated from and was sent via Mail Chimp. The email redirected to a blog (also anonymously written) containing reflections on 2016 AMS elections.

Because the unsubscribe option on the email re-directed to the AMS home page and contained the words AMS Master List, some students and alumni believed that the email came from (or was endorsed by) the AMS.

This email had no connection to the AMS, was not endorsed by the AMS, and was not sent using contact information provided to the AMS.

We have received numerous complaints about this message, its content, and the protection of personal information. The AMS is committed to ensuring the security and privacy of our member information and takes very seriously any attempt to impersonate the society.

We are currently investigating the origins of the email and considering action against individuals or groups responsible for impersonating the AMS.
