ARE EVERYONE'S BUSINESS
Traditionally, when dealing with human rights abuses,
there is a tendency to focus solely on the actions of particular
governments. However, in today's world multinational corporations often
wield as much or more economic power than many governments and have, as
a result, become significant players in the global struggle for human
rights.
All companies have a responsibility to respect human
rights in their operations. But all too often companies are contributing
to human rights abuses, either directly or indirectly.
Blood diamonds, sweat shops, forced labour, and natural
resource exploitation are just a few of the many ways in which certain
business practices are closely entangled with human rights abuses.
There is a need for action, but most of all for awareness
of these issues. Please visit
