AMS Student Government

The AMS Student Society is your advocate, representative, and service organization.

About Student Government

Administering the AMS, as one of the best and largest student associations around, requires a lot of work. The AMS Executive and Student Council are just the tip of the iceberg that is your student government.

AMS Executive Committee

The AMS is directed by a five-member group of student executives, elected annually by UBC students.

AMS Elections

AMS Elections oversees elections to the AMS executive, student representation to the board of governors, and senate, and any referenda arising during the year.

Board of Governors Representives

The UBC Board of Governors determines most aspects of life at UBC, and has two student elected representatives.

Faculty Student Societies

Each of the student associations and undergraduate societies of the degree granting faculties and schools of UBC have their own elected councils and executives, and are represented at AMS council.

Finance Commission

The AMS Finance Commission deals with all the financial matters of your students’ society

AMS Foundation

The AMS Foundation is a charitable organization associated with the Alma Mater Society of UBC Vancouver. The Foundation is a registered Canadian charity and supports funding for Student Services, scholarships, and bursaries.

AMS Ombuds Office

If you feel that you have been treated unfairly or need to approach the University or AMS to resolve a conflict, the AMS Ombudsperson can assist you.

AMS Student Council

AMS Council is the highest elected decision making body of the AMS. The Council is comprised of executive and members from all constituent societies.

Student Administrative Commission

‘The Student Administrative Commission (SAC) is a group of students who handle the administration of AMS clubs, constituencies, and resource groups.

UBC Senate Student Representatives

‘The UBC senate is the governing body on all University academic matters. Student currently comprise 17 of the 85 senate members.
