University Disputes

Resolve a dispute with a University authority

Some of the authorities could be Campus Security, Campus RCMP, UBC VP Students Office, Dean’s Office, Booking Services, etc.

Resolving a dispute with an authority usually involves negotiation where there is a perceived power imbalance. The Ombuds Office can assist you by preparing you for negotiation, or attending the meeting with you to act as a facilitator.

To effectively and consistently deal with workplace issues of harassment and discrimination, the AMS has policies for its employees. If you are an employee of the AMS, you may request a copy of this document from your supervisor, from the AMS General Manager, or the AMS Ombuds Office.

If your grievance is not related to an employment setting within the AMS, to obtain assistance, please contact the UBC Equity Office.

I have been accused of academic/non-academic misconduct… what happens now?

Both the AMS Ombuds Office and AMS Advocacy Office provide assistance in stages throughout the student disciplinary procedures. The Ombuds Office assists students before they are scheduled to meet with the President’s Advisory Committee on Student Discipline (PACSD). This might include meetings with a professor, department head, associate dean, or dean. If your file is referred to PACSD, the AMS Advocacy Office can assist you by helping you prepare and by representing you.
