Max Holmes, VP Academic & University Affairs | NEST 3522 | 604-822-3092

Max is in his third year at UBC and, more importantly, his second year as VPAUA. In his role, he fights for AMS members on topics like greater affordability, better research opportunities, commitment to equity, and student well-being. Outside of the AMS, Max spends time meditating, playing computer games, or just enjoying the great outdoors in Pacific Spirit Park. He can never turn down the chicken caesar wrap with yam fries from the Gallery and believes that grabbing a drink with friends brings genuine health benefits, which might be true, or a justification for all those happy hour pitchers at the Gallery. Hailing from New Hope, Pennsylvania, he’s the American contingent on the executive team and is studying at UBC to earn his Bachelors of Arts.

Chris Hakim, VP Administration | NEST 3514 | 604-822-3961

Originally from Jordan, Chris moved to Vancouver to pursue his dreams of working at the AMS. Or maybe it was to study at UBC? Working towards a degree in Political Science, his role here couldn’t be more suited to his interest and understanding of how political structures in government-like institutions work and the authority and power that comes with various positions. We’ll leave that to him. When he’s not ensuring the smooth running of 400 AMS Clubs amongst other things, he’s usually at the gym or sleeping, which, for the most part we believe. Although, it’s likely you’ll also find him in the Gallery with a beer in hand soon after 5pm. Porch is a firm favorite when it comes to choosing somewhere for lunch, although he’s easily tempted by the Gallery menu at any time of day. Apart from the Nest, of course, Chris’ favorite spot on campus is the Piper Fountain on Main Mall; best enjoyed in the sunshine according to him.

Cristina Ilnitchi, VP External Affairs | NEST 3524 | 604-822-2050

Cristina grew up in Vancouver’s suburbs but is most definitely a city girl at heart. She fits perfectly into exciting places where lots of things are happening and can socialize to her hearts content any time of day; preferably after coffee in the morning though. Her degree in interdisciplinary studies connects her many interests in political science; economics; and gender, race, and social justice; and her all-round enthusiasm for most things translates to her free time too. From new breweries arriving in town to new bands taking over a local spot, you can count on Cristina to be involved before it becomes popular. This does, however, make it unlikely you’ll ever find her in the same social place, unless of course it’s Pit Drag Night, which she religiously attends. Another of her favorite spots on campus is the tree grove past the Forestry building, which she describes as a magical place while noting the importance of the coffee shop nearby. In Cristina’s words: ‘caffeine is magical too’, so maybe that’s the source of her boundless energy…

Kuol Akuechbeny, VP Finance | NEST 3526 | 604-822-3973

Kuol considers three places ‘home’: Tonj in South Sudan, Nairobi and Vancouver. But for the time being, we’re lucky enough to have him here in Vancouver! He believes that any good day starts with breakfast at Blue Chip and typically can be found in The Gallery on Friday afternoons. Studying Commerce, with a Major in Operations and Logistics and a Minor in Law and Society, Kuol is the business-minded individual needed at the helm of AMS finances. But despite being a wizard with numbers, he doesn’t favour them over people, not one bit. In fact, with an open-door policy, you can be sure of a warm greeting from Kuol if you drop by for a chat, whether it’s AMS related or not. So swing by and introduce yourself!
