Advocacy Office

The Advocacy Office provides confidential assistance and representation for undergraduate students involved in formal conflict with the University.

The AMS Student Advocacy Office was opened in Nov. 1999 to help students facing the UBC bureaucracy and entering the disciplinary system without representation. Since that time, staff of the office have worked with hundreds of students directly and advised many more informally.

What We Do

The Advocacy Office provides confidential assistance and representation for undergraduate students involved in formal conflict with the University.

Issues We Help With

  • Academic appeals;
  • Student discipline cases and appeals such as plagiarism, cheating, collaboration, and non-academic discipline;
  • Housing appeals;
  • Parking disputes;
  • Library fine appeals.

Who We Help

The Advocacy Office recognizes the power imbalance inherent in the University system and works to address that imbalance through advocacy. Our service is open to current undergraduate students in good standing with the AMS.

If you would like the assistance of the office please contact us by telephone or email.

  1. If you have an upcoming hearing or appeal, we need at least five business days advance notice to help you prepare for it. We will not be able to accommodate any late requests.
  2. We require 24 hours notice if you are unable to show up for your appointment or need to reschedule your appointment as we may not be able to accommodate late requests.
  3. We do not attend to drop-ins; however, you can drop by the office, phone or email to schedule an appointment.
  4. In order to access the services of the Advocacy Office, you must be a current undergraduate student in good standing with the AMS (you pay fees to the AMS).
