Appeal a Parking Fine

  1. If your car has been towed, you will be required to pay all outstanding fines before your car is released by Campus Security/Parking Services.
  2. Ask the patrol officer to make copies of all the tickets or documents they have obtained from your vehicle.
  3. Ask the patrol officer for a copy of any statements they ask you to write.
  4. If the police are present and you are being charged with a criminal offence, do not offer any statements without speaking to a lawyer. After paying your fines and retrieving your vehicle, you have the right to appeal your parking tickets.
  5. Prepare a letter of appeal, stating your case and why you should be refunded the fine money. The AMS Student Advocacy Office can help you write this letter.
  6. Address it to: Mr. Igor Kim, associate director, Parking and Access Control Services, General Services Administration Building, 204-2075 Webrook Mall, Vancouver, B.C., V6T 1Z1.
  7. Parking Services will look at your letter and any supporting documents, and make a decision about whether to refund your money.
  8. If you are not satisfied with the outcome, you can appeal the decision of Parking Services to the University Legal Counsel.
