AMS Food Bank

The AMS Food Bank provides emergency food relief to current UBC students.

About the Food Bank

The UBC/AMS Student Food Bank provides emergency food relief to current UBC students. The initial set up of the food bank was funded by the AMS through the Innovative Projects Fund. With their support, and that of the AMS executive coordinator of student services, UBC Ismaili Students Association, and UBC Red Cross Club, the Student Food Bank was launched Feb. 2005.

Mandate:

  • To provide a seven-day supply of emergency food relief for current UBC students;
  • To provide nutritionally-sound hampers in accordance with the Canada Food Guide;
  • To educate clients regarding resources available to them on and off campus;
  • To provide the most beneficial experience to volunteers;
  • To advocate about student hunger and poverty issues.

Using the Food Bank

All UBC students are welcome to use the Student Food Bank by showing a valid student ID card. The Student Food Bank offers dry goods and non-perishable groceries. We often have personal hygiene supplies as well.

The UBC/AMS Student Food Bank is meant as an emergency only service, to help students during a time of crisis. To make sure food is available for everyone who needs it, we ask that users limit themselves to one bag of groceries for individuals and two bags for families during each visit. There is a limit of four visits per family per semester. Staff will provide referrals to other Lower Mainland food banks and sources of financial assistance if these limits are not meeting your needs. We will not turn anyone away and we are always here to help.

Please Note: bring your own plastic bags and containers for oil and shampoo.

Donate to the Food Bank

The success of the AMS Food bank is partly dependent on donations from our local community.  Donations of non-perishable goods will be accepted during operating hours as well as by appointment.  If you have any non-perishable goods, please drop by during office hours or email us for pickup.  Your donations are greatly appreciated so please give generously.
