Welcome To The AMS Social Justice Centre

The Social Justice Centre is a resource group of the Alma Mater Society at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada.

The SJC statement of principles:

We recognize that there are immense socio-economic inequalities both globally and in our own communities. These inequalities are inherently unjust. At the Social Justice Centre we aim to take action to abolish these inequalities. As such, we oppose capitalism and other authoritarian systems.

Frustrated, angry, confused, depressed, totally fed up about:

Social services cutbacks, the slashing of the public sector, the scapegoating of the poor, tax cuts to the wealthy and corporations, the widening gap between the rich and the rest of us, downsizing, astronomical CEO salaries, the WTO, the World Bank, MAI, environmental degradation, lack of a decent living wage, high unemployment, slashed UI and welfare benefits, "free trade", McJobs, the corporate media, the corporate co-opting of government, sweatshops, advertising in schools, abuse of workers, aniti-worker legislation, child poverty, declining public education, big oil companies, Niketown; the capitalist system's unending, parasitic greed?

This list is only the start of the problem, but something can and must be done.

Meetings

SJC meetings will be held every Thursday at 12:30 in the resource groups area on the second floor of the Student Union Building during the academic year.
