Advisory Board

Terms of Reference

The Advisory Board shall be comprised of:

  • The President;
  • The five (5) Vice-Presidents;
  • Six (6) appointed members, each assigned to support one (1) AMS Executive;
  • The Managing Director;
  • The Senior Manager, Student Services; and
  • The Clerk of Council.

The President and Managing Director may invite other individuals, such as Senior Managers or Committee Chairs, to meetings of the Advisory Board as guests.

Advisors shall meet with their assigned executive once per month.

The Advisory Board shall hold four (4) regular meetings per year:

  • A meeting in May or June to commence the Advisory Board and support the Executive goal setting process;
  • A meeting in September and a meeting in January to review progress on Executive goals;
  • A meeting in April to debrief the year and close out the Advisory Board’s activities.

Additional meetings may be scheduled at the Chair’s discretion.

The Advisory Board shall provide the AMS Executive with advice and recommendations concerning the strategic direction and operations of the Society.

The Advisory Board shall have no governing power, fiduciary responsibility, or authority to bind the Society.

The Advisory Board shall serve in an advisory capacity only and may not direct the AMS, its subsidiaries, or its staff.

The Advisory Board shall:

  • Review and advise on the AMS Executive’s annual goals;
  • Advise on Society businesses, services, and strategic planning;
  • Assist in creating metrics to review progress on Society goals and projects;
  • Provide long-term guidance for capital projects and advocacy;
  • Offer expertise and historical knowledge relevant to AMS priorities; and
  • Meet regularly with assigned Executives to support their portfolios.
