Are You Textbook Broke?
The Textbook Broke Campaign by the AMS, running from September 23-27, champions affordable learning. This initiative organized by UBC AMS’s Academic and University Affairs Office, offers up to 35 students textbook reimbursements up to $500!

On average, undergrad students pay over $1200 per year on textbooks. With affordability being one of the largest concerns amongst students, rising textbook costs mean students going without course materials because of other financial burdens, like food or housing.
Open Educational Resources (OERs) are at the centre of our campaign. OERs are free learning resources tailored to your classes. Resources include textbooks, journal articles, test banks, videos, and more. OERs benefit everyone – they reduce student costs for learning materials and give profs more flexibility with adapting resources to their courses and teaching goals. If you have a prof that uses OERs, nominate them as an OER Champion to recognize them for their work and attend our annual OER Champions celebration.
