To whom it may concern.
It is with mixed emotions and after much reflection that I am writing to inform you that as of November 13, 2023, I will be taking a leave of absence from my role as the President of the AMS.
Serving as the President for the Society has been an incredible honour and I have sincerely enjoyed the opportunity to meet and work with students. However, I must be honest with the student body and share that I have been facing several personal and professional challenges and it is important for me to prioritise my physical and mental health and take a step back from the role at this time.
Please know that the entire executive team is committed to supporting each of you during this time and we anticipate no interruptions in the operations of the Society. As approved by AMS Council, over the next month, Kamil Kanji, the VP Academic and University Affairs, will be serving in an acting capacity to fulfil the duties of the AMS President while AMS Council conducts the process to appoint an Interim President to serve until I come back from my leave.
Many thanks,
Esmé Decker
AMS President
