Here are notes from the regular AMS Council meeting of December 6, 2023:
Interim President: Councilnamed Ben Du to be Interim AMS President, effective December 19 until April 30. Ben was VP Administration last year and was runner-up to Esmé Decker for president in the March elections.
Interim VP External: Council extended the term of Interim Vice-President Joshua Kim until April 30 after hearing that VP External Tina Tong, who went on leave in October, is extending her leave indefinitely.
ASAP: Council approved the new AMS Sustainability Action Plan (ASAP), after hearing a presentation from Emily Wong-Abdul and Ryan Chiu of the AMS Sustainability Team.
BIPOC position: Council approved the creation of a new BIPOC Engagement Coordinator position to assist the Equity and Inclusion Specialist.
Election changes: Council approved a change in the timing of nominations, so they will end a week earlier in February, and also approved several other minor election changes.
Meeting the Premier: Interim VP External Josh Kim reported on a meeting with BC Premier David Eby. There were also meetings with federal MP Joyce Murray and various city councillors.
Bev Teh: Managing Director Justin Lieu announced that Bev Teh, a long-time employee in Blue Chip Cafe, passed away in November.
Blue Chip move: The Managing Director said that the move of Blue Chip to its new location is now scheduled for January.
Auditorium/Norm Theatre: The Managing Director announced renovations to the Auditorium (aka the Norm Theatre) which will keep it closed until late January.
Appreciating Art: In response to a question from Engineering rep Rowan Bapty, VP Finance Abhi Mishra said that the reason for holding onto the art collection in a time of deficit is that art appreciates in value more than the market does.

The next regular Council meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, January 10, 2024 in the Michael Kingsmill Forum in the Nest at 6 pm.
