Council Summary – March 11 2026

Here are notes from the regular AMS Council meeting of Wednesday, March 11, 2026:

Solar: A student-at-large asked Council how to get support for a project on solar-powered cars.  VP Student Life Kevin Heieis and VP Finance Gagan Parmar said there were AMS and UBC funds to apply to.

Email rule suspension: Council approved a suspension of the policy limiting campus-wide emails to allow additional communication to go out to the students about the referendum.

Commerce bylaws: Council approved minor changes to the bylaws of the Commerce Undergraduate Society (CUS).  The CUS asked for this rather than go to a referendum.

Referendum: VP Finance Gagan Parmar said canvassers are getting positive feedback when promoting the fee increase referendum.  He said the only hurdle is getting enough people to vote in order to meet quorum.

Elevator fixed!  Managing Director Justin Lieu announced that the southside elevator has been fixed ahead of schedule.  He received a round of applause.

Food Security: After much discussion about its composition, Council created a Food Security Initiative Committee to determine funding allocations.

Next meeting:

The next regular Council meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, March 25, 2026 in the Michael Kingsmill Forum in the Nest at 6 pm.
