June 30th, 2022
Dear Members of the Alma Mater Society,
It is with mixed emotions that I wish to announce that the VP Finance, Rita Jin, is stepping down from her role at the AMS as of July 4th, 2022. I would like to extend sincere thanks to Rita for her dedication and contributions as the VP Finance since her election.
Through her leadership, Rita has done her best to consistently put AMS members’ best interests at the forefront. During her term, she has made significant contributions to enhancing the AMS’s financial discipline and systems through the following; digitising and ameliorating the reimbursement, treasurer orientation, and credit card application processes; reducing barriers for students to access subsidies; exploring various ways to make the current healthcare coverage more inclusive and accessible for all students through research into ways to provide a flexible and adaptive H&D Plan to individual student needs; exploring better virtual and mental healthcare options; preparing the $30 Million Budget for FY 22/23; implementing 3 new subsidy programs for students requiring financial assistance; establishing several code changes to expand funding for 350+ clubs and constituencies on campus; improving the AMS credit card policy; leading productive Finance Committee meetings and budget working sessions; and more.
As per AMS’s Code of Procedures (Section VI, Article 9(2)(3), amended April 27th, 2022), “Executives shall seek the approval of Council for their outside commitments before embarking on them…” To ensure compliance with our Code of Procedures, Rita will be resigning as Vice President, Finance, effective July 4th, 2022. As of July 5th, 2022, I will be fulfilling the duties of the Vice President, Finance. We will launch a search for an interim VP Finance to serve until a by-election can be held. The details for this search will be published to our membership shortly.
I have greatly valued Rita’s support and collegiality around the Executive table and her vibrancy around the AMS Offices. Although we will miss her, we wish Rita well and express our gratitude for her contributions to the AMS and the student body.
Sincerely,
Eshana Bhangu
President
