What’s on the Ballot?

Free Students Services When You Need Them

AMS Student Services support students through some of their most challenging times–food insecurity, mental health, disputes with UBC–but use of our services has outpaced our capacity to deliver. Demand for AMS Services such as the Food Bank, Peer Support, Safewalk, Tutoring, and Advocacy has increased by 700% in recent years. Fully independent from UBC, AMS Services are the only services that put students first–they are always on your side.

Make sure free, independent, student-led support is available when you need it. Vote YES to the $5.00 AMS Student Services Fee Referendum.

Why Vote YES?

✔ Expand our capacity to help students who need support
✔ Make sure the services are there when you need them
✔ Greater support for Food Bank operations
Reduced wait times for the Food Bank and Advocacy
✔ Strengthened support for students in crisis
Avoid service reduction in areas such as Safewalk and Tutoring
✔ More choice: student-run alternative to UBC run services

A Seat at the Table

Whether it’s a table for lunch or a quiet spot to study, students are getting squeezed out of the Nest. You deserve a student union building that meets your needs, with more seating, more study space and more areas to chill and collaborate. Vote YES to the $3.00 Capital Projects Fee Referendum and make the Nest work for you.

Why Vote YES?
✔ Add more tables and chairs to the Nest
✔ Creation of a new study, collaboration and social space
Long overdue upgrades to Nest spaces and AV systems

More Opportunities for Connection and Community

Clubs help students find their community, create opportunities for connection, and make this big university feel a little bit smaller. By voting YES to the $4.00 Clubs Benefit Fee referendum, you’ll help the AMS better support and expand our student clubs–allowing clubs can do what they do best, creating a livelier, more inclusive UBC for everyone.

Why Vote YES?
✔ More opportunities to explore your interests and meet new people
✔ Help clubs create better experiences and events
100% Opt-Out fee

What Happens If This Doesn’t Pass?

Without these changes, the AMS will face greater financial constraints, meaning:
Scaling back support for students
Continued overcrowding at the Nest
Less opportunities to build community.
