AMS Elections: FAQ

FAQ

FAQ

Do AMS Executives get paid?

Yes, they do! All AMS Executives work full-time (40 hours/week) and make an annual salary of approximately $39,000 plus benefits.

Can I take courses at the same time?

Yes, you can – however AMS Executives only take 1 to 2 courses per term (anything more is prohibited by AMS Code unless the Board of Directors gives special permission). This is to help ensure executives stay focused on students and not too focused on their classes.

If I’m elected will I get training?

Heck yeah! New AMS Executives spend a lot of time with the outgoing executives to make sure they’re ready to take over the position on day one.

Do I have to pay for campaign materials?

No you don’t. AMS Elections will pay you back for campaign materials at the end of the election. To make sure everyone spends the same amount on their campaign though, here is a cap on the amount each candidate is allowed to spend.

Isn’t the AMS mostly made up of students in frats and sororities?

The short answer is no. Elections are open to all students. Some years there more executives affiliated with frats and sororities, and some years there are none. No matter what your affiliation, if you’re interested in running for a leadership position, grab a nomination form and get going!
