Get to know the students running for leadership positions in this year’s AMS Elections.

Dylan Evans

As your current AMS Vice-President of Administration, Student Senator, & former Forestry Undergraduate Society President (managing a $200,000+ budget and over 100 volunteers), I secured food security funding, worked on over $2 million in projects for students, digitized and expedited AMS room & equipment booking processes, built a multi-faith prayer room in the Nest, established AMS’s first Green Initiatives Action Plan, implemented a 70% baseline reduction to AMS carbon emissions, and served 370 AMS Clubs! Now I want to run for AMS President and improve the campus experience for all students.

As your next AMS President, I will:

  • Create a comprehensive academic resource center with exams, class notes, syllabi, and textbooks
  • Secure more club, undergrad society and student spaces
  • Increase housing, financial aid, and food security
  • Make UBC FUN with campus-wide events and Thunderbird spirit

Jasper Lorien

Over a combined 3 years as a UBC Governor and Senator, and as an AMS Councillor, I’ve managed staff and volunteer teams, been responsible for millions of dollars, and fought for students and won.

At UBC, I’ve successfully advocated for hundreds of thousands of dollars in funding, major policy changes, and to protect student rights in appeals and other processes. Chairing three AMS committees, I’ve brought forward major governance changes to improve the way the AMS operates, increased financial supports for wellbeing, and held the AMS accountable to students.

I have the experience to know what the AMS needs to do better, including the need to act with moral clarity and spend student money well to prioritize the services students need most.

If elected, I will:

  • Guarantee club funding and reduce room booking & reimbursement times
  • Divest from genocide & human rights abuses and push the university to do the same
  • Fight for Skytrain to UBC, student housing, & food security funding
  • Increase bursaries, grad student support & mental health coverage
  • Add study space & open Nest 24/7 during exams
  • Create an exam & syllabi database
