Candidate Bios - VP Academic & University Affairs

Hi! I’m Jaiya, and I’m running to be elected as your next VP Academic and University Affairs.

As your current Associate VP Administration, I have helped allocate approximately $100,000 in funding toward student-led initiatives, events, and projects that create meaningful impact for students and the UBC community. Through this role, I have seen how important it is for student advocacy to be responsive, strategic, and focused on real outcomes.

If elected as your next VP Academic and University Affairs, I will deliver on:

• Increasing undergraduate research opportunities
• Securing long-term food security funding
• Advocating for open educational resources (OERs) and cost-free course materials
• Pushing for more affordable student housing
• Creating clear and consistent GenAI policies while upholding academic integrity
• Extending the course withdrawal deadline
• Ensuring that past course syllabi are available during course registration
• Advocating for improvements to Workday, like a term-by-term calendar view, ability to download timetables, and better user interface
• Opposing tuition increases
• Implementing mid-course feedback procedures
