Ash Dennis

Hi, I’m Ash Dennis

I’ve served as an AMS Representative for two years, and have worked alongside many student senate members, representing Education students and working as a Student Advocate. I focused on transparency, accountability; making sure students actually receive the services they are promised

  • worked on educational policy, student advocacy, improving how decisions are communicated to students.
  • I pushed for stronger student voices in policy discussions
  • supported food security initiatives, because access to affordable food is essential for student success.

On Senate, I will focus on Academic Policy, Student rights, Disability Advocacy, Transparency and More affordable textbooks. Too often, students do not know how policies affect them. I want to bridge that gap and bring real student experiences into the room. Continue work on Accessibility advocacy, to work on UBC’s disability policy (LR7), more accommodations for students with temporary and undiagnosed conditions.

I believe in listening first, acting with care, and following through.

I am committed to representing all students and ensuring Senate works for us.

Bryan Buraga

Hi, I’m Bryan! I’m a master’s student in Community Planning, and I hope to serve as your Student Senator At-Large. I’ve seen first-hand the power that students have when we band together and fight for a common cause, for each other, and for our community.

With two years of experience serving on a university senate, I fought for, and won, a fall reading break for students at McGill University as a student senator. If elected, I will fight for better student supports, including improving our accessibility policy, having access to lecture recordings in all classes, and establishing an exam and syllabus database.

My Student Advocacy Experience:

  • 2026 – Present: Chair of the Graduate Student Society’s AMS Caucus
  • 2025 – Present: Graduate Student Representative to AMS Council
  • 2021 – 2022: Organizer, Divest McGill
  • 2019 – 2020: Student Governor, McGill University Board of Governors
  • 2019 – 2020: President, Students’ Society of McGill University (SSMU)
  • 2018 – 2020: Student Senator, McGill University Senate
  • 2018 – 2020: Chair, SSMU Fall Reading Break Committee

Drédyn Fontana

Coming from a BC town whose claim to fame is a giant hockey stick, I saw UBC as a vibrant community filled with opportunity. That was until I found myself close to dropping out after struggling with undiagnosed ADHD for four years before I was able to register with the CfA. Unfortunately, my experience is not unique. From the alarming rate of student food insecurity to the relentless increase in rent and tuition costs despite student pleas, all we can do is shake our heads as one more administrator tells us “There’s nothing more they can do at this time.” Motivated by my experience, I got involved in advocacy at UBC, knowing that change needed to be driven by student voices.

As EUS VP Academic and AMS VP AUA I:

  • Worked with the CfA Director to publish a list of types of accommodations
  • Led the allocation of $300k to student groups
  • Broke the AES survey response record to advocate for changes to Workday

On Senate I will continue this work by:

  • Introducing new graduation periods beyond November and May
  • Creating a January Standing Deferred Period
  • Continuing to action recommendations from the external review of Senate so changes to policy happen when you need them

Ian Chung

Hi! I’m Ian, and I’m running as your next Senator At-Large. As your Senator, I will fight for every student to live their best student life, I will protect what makes our community unique, and I will transform UBC through these objectives:

  • Expanding university housing supply at affordable costs
  • Implement a cost cap for all mandatory textbooks
  • All lectures to be recorded, with more online/hybrid offerings
  • Significantly expand co-op and research opportunities

A better student life, a better university experience, a better UBC. A vote for me is a vote for you. Let’s do this together!

Jaiya Panchi

Hi! I’m Jaiya, and I’m running to be your next Senator.

As your current Associate VP Administration, I’ve created accessible club & building policies and allocated approximately $100,000 in funding to clubs and student groups for initiatives that create opportunities for students and strengthen campus life. As an intern at RBS LLP and Vice-President in the Pre-Law Association, I understand first-hand how important it is for student advocacy to be responsive, strategic, and focused on real outcomes.

If elected as a Student Senator, I will focus on:

  • Expanding library hours during exam periods
  • Expanding open educational resources (OERs) and lower-cost course materials
  • Advocating for the removal of mandatory exams for 100 and 200-level courses
  • Advocating for past course syllabi to be available during course registration
  • Pushing for clear and consistent AI policies across courses
  • Working to establish a policy to cap textbook costs
  • Increasing undergraduate research opportunities
  • Working to ensure that all Committee meetings of Senate are open and transparent

Jasper Lorien

For Over my last two years on the Senate, I’ve served as the Chair of the Agenda Committee, Vice-Chair of the Academic Policy Committee, Chair of a working group to improve exam policies, and twice as the co-chair of the Student Senate Caucus.

I’ve fought for students, successfully advocating for hundreds of thousands of dollars in funding for undergraduate research and accessibility initiatives, the inclusion of a requirement for GenAI policies in syllabi, and improving accessibility requirements & CfA processes.

If re-elected, I will continue to advocate to:

  • Extend the add/drop deadline
  • End partnerships with universities complicit in human rights abuses
  • Offer online, hybrid, and recorded options for all required courses
  • Lower the standard for academic hardship
  • Increase research opportunities
  • Streamline academic concession process
  • Improve workday functionality
  • Increase PhD minimum funding
  • Protect rights of students accused of academic misconduct
  • Create an exam and syllabi database

Sultana Razia

Hi everyone! I’m running for UBC Senate because I believe academic policy should work for students, not around them. With your votes and trust in me, I got to be elected as Student Senator ‘23-24, where I’ve seen firsthand how Senate decisions shape our daily academic lives from concession policies to library resources & student support. During my term, I served on the Awards Committee & the Library Committee- I delivered substantial results for increased scholarships and awards, extended library hours, and improved access to online resources. I’ve also worked closely with AMS as Senate Rep. These experiences taught me how to navigate governance structures, build consensus, and push for tangible outcomes, especially when student needs risk being deprioritized.

If re-elected, my priorities include improving access to courses, academic advising & libraries, ensuring flexibility around religious & culturally significant observances, transparency around what Senate does, and continuing to advocate for equitable academic policies that recognize the financial and mental load students carry. I’d love to earn your trust and your vote again. Learn more about my priorities @votesultana on IG.
