Get to know the students running for leadership positions in this year’s AMS Elections.
Hi, I am Ananya Gupta, running to be your As Senator-at-Large. As the current VP Academic of the Arts Undergraduate Society, I have advocated for increased funding for clubs, secured $10k for textbook broke campaign, and run Health & Wellness events such as Bunny Therapy and Exam Care Packages. My platform focuses on advocating for academic fairness, expanding learning resources, and increasing accessibility.
I aim to push for:
Vote Ananya for Senator-at-Large!
Science needs a voice in the UBC Senate—and I’m here to be it.
I’m Bardia, a second-year Neuroscience student running to be your next UBC Senator. My platform is built on three key issues that directly impact students like you:
🔹 Stronger Science Representation – As UBC’s second-largest faculty, the faculty of Science is underrepresented in student government. The number of Science students in the Senate doesn’t reflect our population—it’s time to change that.
🔹 Smarter AI Policies – UBC’s vague AI policy forces professors to make their own rules, leading to unnecessary restrictions and outright bans. AI should be a learning tool, not a threat. I will push for clear, student-friendly guidelines and demand free AI tools for students as part of their student bundle, just like Microsoft Office and the UBC library resources.
🔹 More Research Opportunities – Too many talented students struggle to find research positions. I will fight for more funding, more positions, and more opportunities to get students into labs.
Let’s push for real change. Vote for me and let’s build a better UBC together!

I am a junior International Relations and Master of Management student, committed to improving student well-being and academic success by two practical solutions at UBC.
With rising housing costs, many students commute long distances from areas like Surrey, Burnaby, North Vancouver and Richmond. This is especially challenging during exams when students spend long hours on campus. To address this, I propose installing Nap Pods in libraries and student spaces, providing a designated area to recharge, improve focus, and reduce stress. I have conducted initial cost analysis and location selection and will conduct further research on collaboration to implement this initiative.
Additionally, with UBC tuition rising annually, many students struggle to find relevant scholarships. I propose a Scholarship Finder system that consolidates all available scholarships and bursaries into one database with an intelligent matching feature, ensuring students can easily access funding opportunities.
Student benefits today exist as efforts of past senators, and I aim to continue their legacy with practical, student centered initiatives, well-being, and academic support at UBC starting from small steps.
As a third year pharmacology student, I am an active member of our unique community. I am passionate about improving the quality of life for students. I believe my work ethics, my attitude and previous experiences in student leadership and Model United Nations have prepared me for the demands of this position.
A vote for me is a vote for:
I would be grateful if I could receive your vote.
Coming from a small BC town whose claim to fame is a giant hockey stick, I saw UBC as a vibrant community filled with opportunity. That was until I found myself close to dropping out after struggling with undiagnosed ADHD for four years before I was able to register with the CFA. Unfortunately, my experience is not unique. From the alarming rate of student food insecurity to the relentless increase in rent and tuition costs despite student pleas, all we can do is shake our heads as one more administrator tells us “There’s nothing more they can do at this time.” Motivated by my experience, I got involved in advocacy at UBC, knowing that change needed to be driven by student voices.
As EUS VP Academic and AMS VP AUA I:
On Senate, I will continue this work by:

As a current Student Senator and the former VP Academic and Current Co-President of the UBC Disabilities United Collective, I know how to advocate for students. Over the last year, I successfully:
• Secured tens of thousands of dollars for accessibility initiatives
• Fought to prevent cuts to student services
• Advocated to improve CfA processes, including invigilator training and advisor feedback
• Advocated for a list of example accommodations to be listed on the CfA website
• Started a review into the exam hardships policy to be more flexible for students
• Lobbied the chair of the Teaching and Learning committee to begin discussing extending the add/drop deadline
• Fought to get student discipline and academic standing appeal hearings restarted after an over 6-month hiatus
If reelected to the Senate, I will fight for
• Online, hybrid, and recorded lectures for required courses
• Easier CfA registration
• Self-certified extensions
• Extending add/drop deadline
• Academic hardships for midterms and increased hardship period
• Improving student discipline processes
• More Undergrad Research
• Exam database
• Fixing Workday
• Textbook cost cap
I am running for student leadership because I believe that everyone deserves to have their voice heard—not just heard, but acted upon. As my first commitment to you, my email is keanuchanubc@gmail.com. Contact me! I want to know what matters to you and ensure your concerns are brought to the highest levels of UBC leadership.
Last year, I represented Canada at the largest science fair in the world, where I built a medical device to improve spinal surgery. I am well-prepared to break down complex problems and find solutions that benefit everyone. I’m a science student, but I’m also someone you can talk to—someone who will listen to the vision you have at UBC. I plan to institute faculty-wide surveys where I can gauge your thoughts on important issues and vote according to what you actually want, not what I think you want.
Hey UBC! I’m Kareem, and I’m running for re-election on a progressive platform that puts student well-being first.
What experience do I have?
If re-elected, I’ll keep fighting for:
ACCESSIBILITY & ACCOMMODATIONS
AFFORDABILITY & STUDENT RESOURCES
JUSTICE
I want to ensure UBC is fair, fun, and accessible for everyone!
My name is Mankanwar Singh, and I am running to be your Student Representative At-Large to the UBC Senate. As a Residence Advisor, I’ve seen firsthand how academic policies impact students—whether it’s course accessibility, financial strain, or mental health challenges. Seeing so many students including myself struggle with these issues is what motivated me to run in this election. I want to ensure that the Senate actively works to support students and are aware of our needs.
As your next Senator, I will focus on:
UBC should challenge students, not overwhelm them.
Say hi to me on my ig @mankanwar_2021 and learn more about my platform!
My name is Maral and I am running to be one of your five Student senators-at-large. As the AUS Equity and Inclusion Strategist, I am committed to student centered advocacy. I prioritize investing in diversity and inclusion research, expanding accessibility, and tackling the unaffordability of student life.
As a Student Senator, I plan on:
UBC is one of the best universities in the world, but as students, we still face many challenges. I have worked at all levels of government advocating for youth. I want to take what I’ve learned to push for real change. I want to bring that experience to the Senate to ensure that UBC remains one of the world’s best universities.
My campaign is built on two key commitments: accountability and affordability. If elected, I will advocate for:
We can and should do better as a university. If you agree, join me.

Hey UBC! I’m Shorya and I’m running to be your next Student Senator. A bit about me — I’m a psychology student, a passionate Residence Advisor, and a member of UBC’s Presidential Committee on Non-Academic Misconduct (NAMC). Like most of you, I’m familiar with juggling courses, work, and life all at once. When I’m not running late to my own office hours, you can find me grabbing yet another iced coffee or trying to make my way into fully booked courses.
That’s exactly why I’m running — to fix the academic headaches we all deal with. From better course access (because no one should need a degree in Workday to register for classes), to fairer academic appeals and more recorded lectures, I want to push for policies that actually understand student life. Academics should challenge us, not punish us for being human.
Vote Shorya for Senate and let’s make UBC a little less stressful, one policy at a time!
This year I used Senate to advocate for you by bringing a report on accessibility and recorded lectures straight to the Dean of Arts, and pushing for accessible exam policy during senate meetings. I also have experience in advocacy to the government, and through my work in the AUS. Re-elect Solomon to Senate for;
My strong record of advocacy and commitment to transparency is proof that I have the experience needed to serve you on Senate.
Re-elect Solomon so that I can keep advocating for you!
Your Voice. My Vision. Our Victory.
As a 2nd-year UBC Science student and former Science Faculty Rep at UBCO, I’ve spent my time listening, advocating, and ensuring student voices are heard. Now, at UBC Vancouver, I’m committed to building a stronger, student-centered university through my 3V’s:
VOICE – A Transparent and Accountable Senate
🔹 Hosting open town halls for direct student-Senate conversations
🔹 Launching a platform for monthly student-friendly reports on Senate decisions
🔹 Ensuring strict accountability on mid-course feedback
VISION – Policies That Work for Students
🔹 Advocating for an Indigenized curriculum through the SACADI Committee
🔹 Fighting for more co-op opportunities and a clearer breakdown of co-op fees
🔹 Reducing textbook costs with open and digital resources
VICTORY – Overcoming Academic Barriers
🔹 Hybrid learning with more online lectures
🔹 Extending library hours during midterms and finals
🔹 Pushing for longer withdrawal deadlines and equal exam hardship policies across campuses
I believe in a UBC where students have a seat at the table, not just a place in the audience!
Our Senate. Your Senator- Veeru Vaidesh
Hi! I’m Zarifa, and I’m running to be your next Student Senator At-Large. As your current AMS VP Academic and University Affairs, I secured $250,000 for undergraduate research opportunities, $150,000 for hybrid and accessible learning and continued funding for on-campus jobs.
On Senate, I will focus on:
