Do you want to change how the AMS is run, want to fund a new initiative on campus, or don’t like a particular student fee you are paying?
If that interests you, why not try to run a referendum in this year’s AMS Elections. Anyone can petition for a referendum, and referendums can levy new AMS student fees, eliminate or change current AMS student fees, amend the AMS bylaws or constitution, and so much more. If you think you can gather over 1000 student signatures to support your referendum reach out to elections@ams.ubc.ca to start your petition now.
If you want to petition for a referendum, read more about the process in our AMS Referendum Guide.
2025 Referendum Dates and Deadlines:
Please Note: All the following petitions are drafted by individual AMS active members (UBC and Affiliate College Students) and reflect their opinions, and they do not reflect the opinions of the AMS or AMS Elections. Any AMS active member can petition for a question to be included on the ballot, and AMS Elections is obligated to create an online petition for them to collect signatures. Even if a petition gathers the required 1000 signatures to be added to the ballot, this does not mean it will automatically appear on the ballot. All petitions which reach the required 1000 signature threshold will be thoroughly reviewed to ensure they meet AMS Bylaw requirements for referendums, and if they don’t meet requirements, they may be rejected by AMS Council. More information can be found in the referendum guide, and further questions or concerns can be directed to AMS Elections: elections@ams.ubc.ca
You sure can! By forming a Yes or No-Committee you can receive up to $1000 of funding for campaign expenses. However, if AMS Council endorses the Yes or No side of the referendum, you will not be eligible for funding. More details at the Referendum Guide.
