Thank you for your interest in taking part in the AMS Student Research Panel, we really appreciate your opinions and your willingness to share them with us. Your participation in any survey is 100% voluntary and you can ask to be removed from the panel at any time.

What’s the purpose of the panel?
As UBC’s student society the AMS supports all aspects of student life – academic, social, financial and more. The AMS Student Research panel is a diverse group of UBC students serving as the voice of all things student-related. Panel members participate in research surveys and your opinions help guide our work.
What can I expect as a panel member?
As a panel member you’ll be invited to complete surveys and asked to provide your insights and thoughts on relevant student topics. Occasionally you may be invited to take part in other activities such as focus groups.
What types of questions will I be asked?
The topics will vary and may include, but not limited to things like space allocation in the Nest, sampling new recipes, perceptions of the AMS, student debt, housing, sustainability, or the types of events you’d like to see us organize.
How much time does it take to complete these surveys?
Generally the surveys will take between 5 and 10 minutes to complete. The length of each survey will depend on the topic we’re asking you about. We’ll let you know how much time you can expect a survey to take before you begin.
How many surveys can I expect to receive?
The number of surveys you’ll receive will vary based on our research needs. YOU always get to choose whether or not to complete any survey we send you.
Do I have to take all of the surveys I am invited to complete?
No, your level of participation is entirely up to you. While we value your opinions we understand how busy student life can be, so your participation is completely voluntary.
Will I be able to leave the panel?
You are free to simply not respond to any survey invitation we send you. But if you want to remove yourself from the panel entirely please email communications@ams.ubc.ca
What do I get for participating?
You will accumulate points for your participation, so the more surveys you complete the more points you earn. Accumulated points can be redeemed as gift cards to the retail/service of your choice.
Some surveys may have more points associated with them. We’ll let you know the points of each survey prior to your participation. Points can be redeemed starting at just 10 points, see table below. Participation in a focus group will paid out in cash at the end of each session.
Redemption Table
Points accumulated over 30 will start again from the beginning. For example if you accumulated 34 points, you can redeem 30 points and the 4 additional points become your starting total for the next cycle.
You can also add two tiers together. For example if you accumulated 40 points you may redeem 30 points for $25 and the remaining 10 points for $5.
