Transit-Friendly Berry Picking in Richmond

Transit-Friendly Berry Picking in Richmond

By Oliver Quezada and the AMS Team

Nothing screams summer like some really sweet berries, especially if you pick them out yourself. Birak Berry Farm is a transit-accessible farm with a variety of berries such as blueberries, strawberries, blackberries, and raspberries. Here is your friendly guide for the perfect berry picking experience!

Getting There: Transit Friendly

UBC to Birak Berry Farm:

  1. Catch the #R4 Joyce Station (from Bay 4 UBC) to Oakridge 41st Avenue Station.
  1. Transfer to the Canada Line – Richmond Brighouse – to Aberdeen Station.
  1. Transfer to Bay 1 and take the #410  22nd Street Station to No.6 Rd at Cambie.
  1. Walk North up No.6 Rd until you see the big Birak Berry Farm sign.

A round-trip with a student U-Pass works best, but if you choose to use your Compass card and a loaded balance, a round-trip is $9.70 for adults.

Buckets and boxes

BYOB (Bring Your Own Bucket) or Box

The farm allows for you to bring your own bucket or box to hold your berries while you pick, but they also sell buckets for $2.50.

Berries Available:

  • Blueberries
  • Strawberries
  • Blackberries
  • Raspberries

(Your bucket will get heavy the more you pick)

What to Wear

Clothing

Dress for the weather, but we’d suggest avoiding long pants since the ground can be muddy.

Shoes

Wear the appropriate farm shoe. Whether that be a boot or an old sneaker, it’ll get messy.

Pricing

Blueberries: $4/lb

Every other berry: $5/lb

(You can also purchase the berries pre-picked at a variety of prices)

Birak Berry Farm is the perfect berry U-Pick activity and super transit friendly for UBC students. It’ll make your summer just a bit sweeter and it’s the perfect excuse to get into baking since you can make anything you want with them.
