AMS/GSS Health & Dental Plan
International Students. You can opt-out of the AMS/GSS Health & Dental plan as it doesn’t provide coverage outside of Canada. To opt-out please contact Studentcare.
The Plan & Pricing
The AMS/GSS Health & Dental Plan was designed by students for students to take care of expenses not covered by basic health care plans, such as British Columbia’s Medical Services Plan (MSP), equivalent provincial health care plans, and private basic plans. The comprehensive Plan covers prescription drugs, dental care, psychologist visits, travel health coverage, vision care, and much more.
The total cost of the plan is $264.63 per student for 12 months of coverage from September 1, 2020 to August 31, 2021. New students beginning in January 2020 pay $176.42 for coverage from January 1 to August 31, 2021.
All AMS and GSS members are automatically enrolled, including full-time and part-time students, international students, and those auditing a course. Certain exceptions exist so make sure you check your fee statement or contact studentcare.ca to confirm your coverage. If you are covered, the cost of the Plan is part of your student fees.
The Change-of-Coverage Period is the period at the beginning of the term when you can either opt out or enrol your spouse and/or dependent children in the AMS/GSS Health & Dental Plan.
If you start school in Term 1, the Change-of-Coverage Period is from Sept. 8 – 29, 2020.
If you’re a new student starting in Term 2, the Change-of-Coverage Period is from Jan. 4 – 25, 2021.
If you’re a new student starting in Term 3, the Change-of-Coverage Period is from June 3 – 30, 2021.
If you’re covered by another plan (i.e. parent or spouse’s employee benefit plan) you can combine this plan with the AMS/GSS Health & Dental Plan to maximize your overall coverage and eliminate out-of-pocket costs.
