On April 28, Canadians head to the polls to vote for their next federal government. Ottawa can seem like a long way away from UBC, your vote can affect you in big ways, such as:

To be eligible to vote in the municipal elections as a resident or non-resident property elector, you must:
Permanent residents that have not yet become Canadian citizens are unable to vote.
There are three different opportunities that students have to vote:
Vote at The Nest (any riding)
From Sunday April 13 to Wednesday April 16, you can vote in your home riding from UBC. The Voting Place is located on the Nest 4th Floor, in the GSS Lounge.

Advanced Voting (Individual Ridings)
If you don’t think you can vote on Election Day, or just want to vote early, Advance Polling stations will be open 9AM – 9PM, April 18 to April 21 in your home riding. This means you need to travel to your riding to vote in advance.

Mail Ballot Voting
Voters can request to vote by mail from Elections Canada. Requests must be received by Tuesday, April 22, 6PM to qualify.
Vote on Election Day
Monday, April 28 is Election Day. Polls will be open for 12 hours (hours may vary by time zone) so be sure to check the times and locations before heading out to vote. You must vote in your home riding.
First, make sure you are registered to vote.
When you arrive at a polling station, you must prove your identity
Option 1: Show one of these pieces of ID
Option 2: Show two pieces of ID
Both must have your name and at least one must have your current address.
Examples:

Option 3: If you don’t have ID
You can still vote if you declare your identity and address in writing and have someone who knows you and who is assigned to your polling station vouch for you.
The voucher must be able to prove their identity and address. A person can vouch for only one person (except in long-term care facilities).
