Week 2 of November Discover Lightwork Meditation Host: Thrive UBC Date: Monday, November 7 Time: 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM Location: On Zoom Experience a free 50 minute guided meditation to release your worry, anxiety, emotions. All are welcome. Registration required. Program is offered on other days as well. Sweat with a Friend Spin Class Host: Thrive UBC Date: Tuesday, November 8 Time: 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM Location: ARC Spin Studio Registration is free and open to all. Self Care Strategies for Managing Stress and Avoiding Burnout (Online) Host: Graduate Pathways to Success, UBC Counselling Services and Thrive UBC Date: Wednesday, November 9 Time: 12:00 PM – 1:30 PM Location: On Zoom This interactive webinar will be facilitated by members of UBC Counselling Services, and focuses on managing your stress during graduate school. CUSmile Host: Commerce Undergraduate Society Date: November 11 to 14 Time and Location: Varies by day CUSmile is a themed week hosted by the CUS which encompasses different student groups’ initiatives to shine a light on mental health, wellbeing, and interpersonal connections. Week 3 of November Puppy Yoga Host: Kinesiology Undergraduate Society Date: Tuesday, November 15th Time: 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM Location: Room 2306/2309 in the Nest Come to a relaxing yoga class with puppies to help destress students before finals and donate towards Little Paws Rescue Society. Harm Reduction 101 November 15, 3:00-4:30pm, The PIT Pub This will be an opportunity to learn about the basics of harm reduction and safer substances practices. There will also be trivia at the end as well as on the spot Naloxone training. Bunny Meet and Greet Host: AMS Peer Support November, 16th 3:30-4:30pm, NEST 2314 This will be a relaxed drop-in event where students can come destress by playing with bunnies, feeding them treats and learning a little more about PS services. Prof Talks: Men’s Mental Health Panel Host: Arts Undergraduate Society, Alma Mater Society and Thrive UBC Date: Thursday, November 17 Time: 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM Location: ASC 2nd Floor Join a panel on men’s mental health (i.e. toxic masculinity, depression, stigma around men’s mental health), where professors will be asked to talk about those topics after a brief introduction of themselves and their mental health journey. AMS Peer support X UBC REC event Friday November 18th TBD Introduction to Skateboarding Host: Thrive UBC Date: Friday, November 18 Time: 2:00 PM – 3:15 PM and 1:30 PM – 4:45 PM Location: Vancouver Campus Skateboarding is a great form of transportation, but it can be tough to learn on your own! It is especially important to be safe when learning a new skill, so this is the perfect FREE beginner session if you’ve always wanted to learn how to skateboard. Week 4 of November Overcoming Perfectionism Host: Graduate Pathways to Success and Thrive UBC Date: Tuesday, November 22 Time: 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM Location: On Zoom This workshop will introduce participants to some of the concepts that drive perfectionism so that they may have a better understanding of what is going on as well as provide strategies to manage the challenging parts that arise. The Amazing Race Host: UBC Music for Mental Health, UBC Music Initiative, UBC Men’s Mental Health Club, Unload UBC, UBC Economic Undergraduate Society, and Thrive UBC Date: Tuesday, November 22 Time: 5:30 PM – 8:30 PM Location: Around campus Join us for an action-packed night event where students will compete in teams of up to 5 people to race across the UBC Campus, from the LIFE building to Ponderosa Commons, to complete a series of activities centered around mental health. Afterwards, there will be food provided, as well as musical performances. Reflect and Connect Host: The Association of Population and Public Health Students and Thrive UBC Date: Once every week of NOvember Time: 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM Location: SPPH Lobby Chat with some friendly people and pick up some healthy snacks! SPPH students are encouraged to grab some food and contribute to the wall of post-it notes as part of the Thrive mental health initiative. Get Into Movement Challenge Host: Thrive UBC Date: Month of November This challenge will teach you about the Canadian 24-Hour Movement Guidelines, and provide tips on how to integrate movement, sleep, and mindfulness more easily into your daily routines. On this self-discovery journey, the ultimate goal is to help you to explore ways to move and practice mindfulness that you enjoy. |
