If you haven’t noticed by now, Coronavirus (COVID-19) is highly contagious. Anyone can get the virus including you, and more importantly pass it onto someone else. And while many of us aren’t in the higher-risk category and may only suffer mild symptoms, the people we could pass COVID-19 onto might not be so lucky. Even if you’re not worried about yourself (you should be), think about everyone around you – family, friends, classmates, or the stranger with underlying health problems. Do you really want to pass the virus onto them?
Social Distancing?!?
We get it. Social Distancing is a new phrase that nobody is familiar with. Here’s what it means:
- Stay the eff away from everyone except your immediate family.
- Stay home or in your space, and go out only if you absolutely have to.
- If you do go out stay two meters away from the people around you.
Going stir crazy? Here are a few ideas to help pass the time when you’re not studying at home.
1 Watch everything on Netflix
There’s are only a few hundred thousand shows to watch. Challenge yourself and your friends to watch it all. GO! Even better, host a real movie right with Netflix party (https://www.netflixparty.com/)
2 Already done?
Unlikely, but you could check out the 2900+ movies available freely through UBC Library, here: http://resources.library.ubc.ca/page.php?id=2156. They have some of the latest movies. I’m thinking the same thing: how did I not know about this earlier?!
3 Tabletop Simulator
If you love board games TTS lets you and your friends sit around a virtual table and play. There are 1000s of games available and the experience is pretty good. Here is a comprehensive list of all those that are freely available – all you need is a browser, a Steam account, and a few friends. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1nwZkqIoIkkUakCvjiiLul6QFObxBM0DIP–…
4 Party Online
Get a few friends together over Zoom or Google Hangouts, online It’s always happy hour.
5 Read a book
Grab that novel you got last Christmas but never actually read because “you didn’t have time”. Good news is you do have time now.
6 Visit a museum
From the comfort of your couch. Google Arts & Culture has made available several galleries from iconic artists in museums all around the globe. https://artsandculture.google.com/partner?hl=en
7 Bake bread
It’s the latest craze – baking aisles are empty and my Instagram feed is filled with people making bread. Maybe it’s your turn now.
8 Do yoga
Release your stress and learn how to meditate while practising yoga. There are tons of free apps and resources out there, I recommend https://www.youtube.com/user/yogawithadriene.
